~Twilight falls like a blanket. I look out my window and yearn for the sky. Somewhere a voice is murmuring softly, calling my hidden self to step forth, and dance amid the dewy grass and softly falling sugar stars.

This Moment Softly Broken.
~Swan maiden, queen of the birds, where are you going? Who do you dance for? Will I see you again glide across the forest floor? Will you shed your robe of feathers and fly no more?

This painting was inspired by stories of swan maidens. Some people say, they have glimpsed swans shed their feathers to become ethereal maidens. The stories usually follow a young man who glimpses the swan maidens bathing. It is love at first sight, or at least infatuation. He steals one of their feather robes. Then the swan maiden can not change back into a swan so she becomes his wife. They spend the years together, and she forgets her swan life.
But She always finds it again. The call of the wild winds is too strong. The swan maiden becomes a swan once more and flies away.
